Greg Raymer first ventured into poker while he was in college. Playing nickel and dime games with fraternity friends, he developed an enjoyment of the game. He spent some time as a blackjack card counter in Indian casinos in Minnesota to earn extra money while he was in graduate school and law school.

After law school, he settled down in Chicago, where he stumbled onto a charity poker game and was hooked. He bought a pile of books and set out to really learn the game.

Two events converged to pull Greg into the world of high stakes poker. First, he discovered the wonders of the Internet, particularly the amazing wealth of knowledge available in the rec.gambling.poker newsgroup. Second, in 1999 he moved to Connecticut, where the weekly Hold ‘Em Tournaments at Foxwoods Casino became his stomping grounds.

His entry on the world poker stage came in the 2000 World Series of Poker, where he made it to the final table but ultimately finished only third. Beaten but not broken, Greg returned to Connecticut and used both the Foxwoods games and PokerStars.com to sharpen his tournament play.

The hard work of playing and learning paid off in 2004 when Greg made World Series of Poker History. Even though Pokertropolis put his odds at 400 to 1, he bested an astounding 2,575 players to take home a record jackpot of $5 million.

Greg has been described as an amusing, intelligent, and affable player. His hobby is collecting fossils and his nickname comes from his habit of using such fossils to protect his cards.

Greg is married and lives with his wife and daughter in Stonington, Connecticut. The lizard eye glasses that he sports at the table were purchased during a family vacation to Disney World.

Greg’s poker accomplishments include the following:
· Third place finish at the 2000 World Series of Poker
· First place finish and $5 million in prize money at the 2004 World Series of Poker
· First-place ranking on the all-time money list
· One World Series of Poker bracelet
